Adrift, or Post-Graduate Studies in the Ancient Art of Navel-Gazing

Welcome to my blog.

Expectation vs. Reality to be Measured at a Later Date.

I began this site in an effort to improve my writing overall and regain sensation/jump-start some form of electrical impulse in my long-inert creative neurons. I used to think of myself as an artist and a writer, skilled at neither, who just didn’t happen to be drawing or writing at the moment, but then I noticed that for a good ten or fifteen years I had pretty much just been going to work and scrolling the internet, while occasionally thinking things like “I should make a blog,” “maybe I should try to actually finish a novel,” “I miss doing art,” or “why did I spend hundreds of hours trying to invent multiple languages for characters in a book I haven’t properly started writing yet? Not sure but it was entertaining.”

I am hoping to achieve a balance of fiction/creative writing and semi-organized thoughts (I dare not whisper the word “essays” lest any specters of college professors past be necromanced into my apartment) on social issues, historical trends, and THE MEANING OF LIFE, ITSELF. The usual.

Delicate Items and (Nearly) Unmentionables:

In the interest of avoiding being immediately un-personed and drone-dropped into the nearest thought crime labor camp, I shall tread lightly on more controversial issues, but I hope to get my point across in a way that invites discussion. I will add tags not only for the purpose of sorting but also to denote topics that someone is likely to actively want to avoid reading, and I will separately indicate content warnings when I personally feel it is appropriate (e.g. mention of suicide or self-harm). Having said all that, I sincerely doubt there will be much in the way of Shock and Awe on this website.
